Waste management

Overview

Environmental sustainability and responsibility is a core value at PP O’Connor. Through careful planning and robust Site Waste Management Plans, we actively minimise the amount of waste that goes to landfill by maximising the amount of materials that can be reclaimed and recycled.

Recycling and removal:

PP O’Connor has invested in the future and owns and operates recycling facilities throughout the north of England.

We can confidently say we recycle at least 95% of materials during both our demolition and bulk earthwork operations. We do this through early the identification of recyclable materials and providing in situ recycling facilities. Through our investment, PP O’Connor produce the following re-cycled materials:

  • 6F2
  • 6F1
  • Type 1
  • Pipe bedding
  • Screened soils
  • Waste recovery materials suitable for reclaimed landfill sites

Logistics and plant:

At PP O’Connor, we believe in investing in new plant, machinery and vehicles, to represent our company’s image positively whilst providing efficiencies and reliability. We operate a large modern fleet of tipper wagons, each fitted with state-of-the-art satellite navigation units, linked directly into our Logistics Centre at our head office, allowing us to co-ordinate the fleet efficiently and reduce our carbon footprint.

Waste management plans

Minimising waste is a key driver for PP O’Connor. To identify and calculate volumes of waste and ensure they are managed effectively, we produce Site Waste Management Plans for all our sites.

Landfill sites:

PP O’Connor operates and partners in landfill sites. We manage what materials can go to which landfill site by assessing the thresholds of contamination and classifying the material as inert, non-hazardous or hazardous. All projects are provided with the relevant waste transfer notes and licenses from each landfill site to form part of the clients’ Site Waste Management Plan.
